The honest answer is: it depends on what you are getting. The range runs from nothing for a free Wix template to A$10,000+ for a full agency build. Most tradies fall somewhere in the middle and are not sure what they are paying for.
Here is what the real options look like in 2026.
Free website builders
Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy. You pick a template, swap in your logo and photos, and publish. Total cost: free to about A$30 a month.
The problem is not the tool. It is that most tradies start the site and never finish it. The homepage says "Welcome" and the services page has three bullet points. Nobody writes suburb pages because nobody told them to, and nobody writes proper service copy because they are a tradie, not a copywriter.
A template with placeholder content does more harm than no site at all, because it tells the homeowner you do not care enough to finish it.
DIY with a bit of help
Some tradies hire a freelancer on Airtasker or Fiverr to build a Wordpress site. That usually costs A$300 to A$1,500 depending on the freelancer and the scope.
You get a working site. Often five to ten pages. The copy is either written by the freelancer (who does not know your trade) or left to you (and it never gets done). Updates require calling the freelancer back or learning Wordpress yourself.
There is nothing wrong with this path if the person is good and the scope is right. The issue is that it stops at whatever was agreed. If you want suburb pages later, that is another round of quoting and another invoice.
Agency builds
A proper web agency in Australia charges A$3,000 to A$15,000 for a tradie website. Some charge more. The work is usually good, but the price includes office rent, project managers, account managers, and a design process that takes weeks.
For a business doing six figures a year, that might be reasonable. For a painter who wants a few more jobs a month, it is a lot of money on faith, because most of those agencies ask for 50 percent upfront before you see anything.
Lead platforms
Hipages, Airtasker, Oneflare. These are not websites, they are lead platforms. You pay per lead or per month, and the leads are shared with other tradies in your area.
The maths: if you pay A$30 per lead and four tradies get the same one, you are paying A$30 for a 25 percent chance of getting the job. And you pay that whether the homeowner replies or not.
A website costs more upfront but sends every enquiry to you and nobody else.
What we charge
The Setup Fee is A$500.
A$100 Deposit starts the Build. You see the whole finished site, 20 to 30+ pages, on a private Preview link within 3 business days. Changes until you are happy. A$400 Balance on Approval.
You do not pay a designer separately, a copywriter separately, or a developer separately. One price, one team, one site.
What you get for A$500:
- 20 to 30+ pages, one per service and suburb
- Copy written for your trade and your suburbs
- Quote form on every page
- Tap-to-call on every page
- Mobile first, built for phones
- Preview in 3 business days
- Changes until you are happy
After launch, the Care Plan keeps the site live and looked after month to month. The price is agreed on the call before any Deposit is paid.
The Deposit model
We used to build sites before anyone paid. Built 30+ of them. A lot of tradies loved the work and vanished when money came up.
Now it starts with a Deposit. A$100. Both sides have something at stake. You see the whole finished site before paying anything more, and if you do not approve it, you owe nothing else.
How to compare
When you are looking at prices, ask these questions:
1. How many pages am I getting?
2. Who writes the copy?
3. Do I see the finished site before I pay the full price?
4. What happens if I do not like it?
5. What is the monthly cost after launch?
If the answer to number three is no, you are paying on faith. If the answer to number four is "non-refundable deposit, no site", you are stuck.
With our model, the answer to three is: yes, you see everything. The answer to four is: you owe nothing more.
