Most tradie websites have a "Service Areas" page. It is a single page with a list of suburbs in dot points. Maybe a Google Maps embed. That is it.
That page does nothing for search. Google cannot look at a list of 30 suburbs and decide you are the best painter in each one. It needs a proper page for each suburb, with content about what you do there, to have something to rank.
How search works for local trades
When a homeowner types "painter Ipswich" into Google, Google looks for the most relevant page about painting in Ipswich. It checks the title, the heading, the content, the URL.
A page that says "Painting in Ipswich" in the title, talks about painting work in Ipswich in the content, and lives at a URL like `/painting-ipswich` is more relevant than a page that says "Service Areas" and has "Ipswich" in a bullet list.
That is not a ranking promise. It is how relevance works. The more specific the page, the more relevant it is to a specific search.
What a suburb page looks like
A suburb page is a real page with real content. It says what services you offer in that suburb, how homeowners can contact you, and why you are the right choice for that area.
For a painter in Brunswick Heads, a suburb page might cover:
- Interior and exterior painting in Brunswick Heads
- The types of homes in the area (Queenslanders, beach houses, newer builds)
- A quote form that goes straight to you
- Your phone number for tap-to-call
- Any job photos you have from work in that area
It is not a copy-paste of the same text with the suburb name swapped in. Each page should be written for that suburb, even if the structure is the same.
Why bulk suburb pages get a bad name
You have probably seen tradie websites with 200 suburb pages that are all identical except for the suburb name. "We offer painting in [suburb]. Our painters in [suburb] are experienced. Contact our [suburb] painting team."
That is spam. Google knows it. Homeowners know it. It makes the whole site look cheap.
The answer is not "do not build suburb pages". The answer is "build fewer and make them real". 20 to 30+ pages of proper content is better than 200 pages of the same paragraph with a different suburb name swapped in.
How we build them
Every Build we make has a page for every service the tradie offers and every suburb they work in. The page count lands between 20 and 30+, depending on how many services and suburbs there are.
The copy is written for that service in that suburb. Not generated from a template, not copy-pasted. If you are an electrician who does switchboard upgrades in Ipswich and solar installations in Springfield, those are two different pages with two different pieces of content.
Each page has:
- A title and heading that names the service and the suburb
- Content about what you do there
- A quote form
- A tap-to-call button
- Mobile-first layout
The structure gives Google a proper page to show for each search. That is what "structured to improve local search visibility" means. It is not a ranking promise. It is giving Google the pages to work with.
How many suburbs is enough?
Start with the suburbs you actually work in. Not every suburb in your state. Not every suburb in your city. The ones where you want more work.
If you are a painter who works across ten suburbs and offers three services (interior, exterior, commercial), that is 30 pages of content. Add a homepage, an about page, a contact page and a few others, and you are looking at 35+ pages.
That is a real website. Not a template. Not a five-page placeholder. A site that covers what you do and where you do it, with a way for homeowners to contact you from every page.
The before and after
The difference between a "Service Areas" list page and proper suburb pages is visible in search.
With a list page, you show up for almost nothing. Google has one page about 30 suburbs and cannot figure out which one is relevant to any particular search.
With individual suburb pages, Google has a specific page to show when someone searches for your trade in that suburb. The page is relevant, the content matches, and the homeowner lands on a page that answers their search.
