The Problem

Why most Brisbane trade websites miss local jobs.

Brisbane is not one market. A renovator in Carindale, a young family in Ripley and a homeowner in Redland Bay all search by trade and suburb: painter Paddington, electrician Springfield Lakes, tiler Shailer Park.

A five-page site with a suburb list in the footer gives Google one page to match all of those searches. The City of Brisbane alone saw almost $1.5 billion in renovation spending, before you count Ipswich, Logan and the Redlands.

Then there is your licence. The QBCC counts your website as advertising, so it has to show your licence name and QBCC licence number. A site that only shows your trading name will most likely be non-compliant, the QBCC says.

Shared lead platforms sell the same job to other tradies, so you pay for the enquiry and still race on price. The other route is a typical agency at $3,000 to $15,000, often with half upfront before you see a page.

Ampliia builds a 30+ page site with a page for every service and every suburb you work, your QBCC details on every page, and every quote request going straight to your phone.

The Brisbane Market

Where Brisbane's building money is going.

South East Queensland is building and renovating at the same time. These are the figures behind the suburbs we write pages for.

QLD Licence Rules

What a Queensland tradie website has to show.

The QBCC lists websites as advertising, right alongside vehicle signage and flyers, so your site has to follow the same rules as your ute.

  • ·Your licence name and QBCC licence number. The QBCC says an ad with only a trading name will most likely be non-compliant, so we put your licence name and number on every page, next to your trading name.
  • ·Easy to read. The QBCC wants licence details easily legible and reasonably prominent. We set them in clear type, not grey fine print at the bottom of the footer.
  • ·Electricians show one more number. The Electrical Safety Office says electrical contractors must include their registered name and electrical contractor licence number on all advertising, websites included. Each page of the Handy Hands Electrical Build displays its licensing credentials.
  • ·No contractor licence yet? Building work over $3,300 needs a QBCC licence, and unlicensed tradies must say so in their ads, for example: Cannot perform building work valued in excess of $3,300. Plumbing, drainage and gas fitting need a licence at any value.
  • ·Getting it wrong costs more than the website. Under section 54 of the QBCC Act, the maximum penalty for non-compliant advertising is $6,044 for an individual licensee and $30,222 for a company.
