The main hipages alternatives in Australia are Airtasker, ServiceSeeking and Service.com.au, plus smaller platforms like ServiceTasker. Each charges differently: a cut of each completed job, a flat monthly membership, or a fee per lead. The alternatives that cost nothing but time are a Google Business Profile, local Facebook community groups and word of mouth. The one you own outright is your own website.
Which one is better depends on your trade, how fast you can reply and how much of your margin you are willing to give away. This guide compares them on how they charge, because that is what decides whether a platform pays you or you pay it.
What is better than hipages?
For most tradies, what beats hipages is work that comes to you alone: referrals, a Google Business Profile with plenty of reviews, and your own website. Among paid platforms, Airtasker suits small jobs because you only pay when you win. ServiceSeeking and Service.com.au suit tradies who quote a lot, because they charge a flat fee.
"What is better than hipages?" came up in Google's People Also Ask box on four of the searches we ran in October 2026. There is no single answer, because the platforms charge in completely different ways. The fair comparison is the cost per job you actually win, which we explain at the end.
The main hipages alternatives at a glance
hipages charges a monthly subscription that buys credits for leads. Airtasker charges nothing upfront and takes a service fee from completed jobs. ServiceSeeking and Service.com.au charge a membership with no fee per lead. ServiceTasker charges to reveal each lead. Oneflare is gone: Airtasker closed it on 30 June 2026.
| Platform | How you pay | Published or reported price | Source |
| hipages | Monthly subscription, credits spent per lead | $139 to $649 a month + GST | hipages membership page, checked 7 October 2026 |
| Airtasker | Service fee on each task you are assigned | 12.5% to 20% of the task price + GST | Airtasker Support Centre, checked 8 October 2026 |
| ServiceSeeking | Flat monthly membership, unlimited quotes | From $129 a month including GST, varies by trade and area | Web Blend review, August 2026 |
| Service.com.au | Subscription plan, no lead fees, no commission | Depends on trade and location | Service.com.au pricing page, checked 8 October 2026 |
| ServiceTasker | Fee to reveal each lead | Not published | 20 Minute Marketing, May 2026 |
Prices on these platforms change often and many depend on your trade and postcode. Treat the table as a starting point and check the live page before you sign anything.
Airtasker: pay only when you win the job
Airtasker is free to join and free to make offers. When a customer assigns you a task, Airtasker charges you a service fee of 12.5% to 20% of the task price, plus GST, depending on your tier. If you do not win the work, you pay nothing. The customer pays a separate Connection Fee on top.
Airtasker's own Australian tier page sets out the four tiers. Bronze is 20% for Taskers earning under $880 in the last 30 days. Silver is 18.5% from $880, Gold is 14.9% from $2,650 and Platinum is 12.5% from $5,300. You also need a good completion rate to move up.
The upside is clear: no money spent on leads you lose. The downside is that the fee comes out of every job you win, and Airtasker is known for small, price-driven tasks. One commenter in a March 2026 r/AusRenovation thread put it bluntly: "it's a business made on using the lowest quote - then fees come out." We compare the two platforms in detail in Airtasker vs hipages for tradies.
ServiceSeeking: one monthly fee, unlimited quotes
ServiceSeeking charges a flat monthly membership instead of a fee per lead, and lets you quote on as many jobs in your area as you like. Web Blend's August 2026 review reports prices from $129 a month including GST for most members. The price changes with your trade and location, so ask for a quote for your area.
ServiceSeeking does not publish its tradie prices on an open page. Its business signup asks for your industry and postcode first. Web Blend reports month to month billing, with discounts for paying quarterly or yearly, and no commission on jobs.
A flat fee rewards tradies who quote a lot and reply fast, because the cost per job falls the more you win. It punishes tradies who sign up and then do not use it. Customers still get several quotes, so you are still competing with other tradies on the same job.
Service.com.au: a subscription with no lead fees
Service.com.au charges a membership plan and nothing per lead. Its pricing page promises "No leads fees", "No commissions per job" and "No lock in contracts", with an unlimited number of job leads on its plans. You pick your trade and service area, then choose a plan. You can create a free listing to see nearby jobs before paying.
The page says more than 4,000 businesses use it. It does not list plan prices until you enter your trade, so check the cost for your category and area. As with any flat fee platform, the question is whether enough of those unlimited leads turn into jobs in your suburbs to cover the membership.
ServiceTasker and the smaller platforms
ServiceTasker and a handful of other smaller platforms also send tradie leads. 20 Minute Marketing's May 2026 roundup lists ServiceTasker as charging a fee to reveal each lead. Smaller platforms can mean less competition per job, but also fewer jobs. Test one for a month before you commit to a longer plan.
Two quick warnings. First, check the cancellation terms before you pay, because a cheap first month means nothing if you are locked in for a year. Second, if a comparison still mentions Oneflare, it is out of date: Airtasker closed Oneflare on 30 June 2026.
The free alternatives: GBP, Facebook groups and word of mouth
The cheapest hipages alternatives cost time instead of money. A Google Business Profile is free and puts you on Google Maps. Local Facebook community groups let you post on business days. Word of mouth is still how most good tradies stay booked. None of these share your enquiry with other tradies.
Real tradies rank these ahead of paid platforms:
- Google Business Profile. "Google Business Profile is your #1 priority, full stop. That thing drove like 80% of our early leads." (r/smallbusiness, August 2026)
- Facebook community groups. "Find some local community FB groups, lots of them have a specific day they allow businesses to post so check the rules." (r/AusRenovation, August 2023)
- Google Maps. "I use google maps. Just listed my business. It comes up if your search my trade in same area." (same thread)
- Referrals. "80% of my business is referral." (r/smallbusiness, a tradie on their best return on marketing)
These take effort: photos on your profile, asking every happy customer for a review, and posting in the right groups on the right days. But the work stacks up over time, and every enquiry comes to you alone. Our guide to Google Business Profile for tradies shows where to start.
Your own website: the alternative you own
A website is the one hipages alternative you own. There is no credit per lead and no cut of the job, and nobody else quotes on the enquiry. A page for every service and suburb gives Google something specific to show for local searches. It does not replace platforms overnight, but every month it works for you.
It works best alongside a Google Business Profile, because the profile gets you onto Maps and the website gives people a reason to choose you once they find you. Nobody can promise a ranking or a set number of jobs. What a good Build does is give you pages structured to improve local search visibility, with a quote form on every page and your number one tap away.
Our trade pages show what that looks like: websites for plumbers, websites for electricians, websites for landscapers and websites for painters. For a live example, see the Maxson Painting Build. We compare platforms with a site of your own in hipages vs your own website.
How to choose: the cost per job won test
Whatever you try, measure the cost per job you actually win. Add up what you paid the platform in a month, including fees taken from jobs, and divide by the jobs you won from it. Compare that with your profit per job. Keep the platforms where the number is small, and drop the rest.
| How the platform charges | Your cost per job won |
| Per lead (hipages credits, ServiceTasker) | Total spent on leads divided by jobs won |
| Flat membership (ServiceSeeking, Service.com.au) | Monthly fee divided by jobs won that month |
| Fee on completed jobs (Airtasker) | The fee on each job, 12.5% to 20% + GST |
| Your own website and GBP | Monthly cost divided by jobs won from the site and profile |
Track it for three months, not two weeks. A flat fee platform looks expensive in a quiet month and cheap in a busy one, and a per job fee looks cheap until you add it up across a year of bigger jobs. The lead cost calculator runs this sum for you.
Frequently asked questions
What is better than hipages for tradies?
For most established tradies, work that comes to you alone beats paid leads: referrals, a Google Business Profile with plenty of reviews, and your own website. Among platforms, Airtasker suits small jobs because you pay only when you win, while ServiceSeeking and Service.com.au suit tradies who quote often, because they charge a flat fee.
What is the best app for tradies to find work?
There is no single best app. Airtasker suits small, quick jobs and costs nothing until you win. hipages, ServiceSeeking and Service.com.au suit tradies who quote often and reply fast. Free options like the Google Business Profile app often bring better jobs, because the customer found you directly instead of comparing three quotes.
Is ServiceSeeking better than hipages?
It depends on how much you quote. ServiceSeeking charges a flat membership with unlimited quotes, reported from $129 a month including GST. hipages charges $139 to $649 a month plus GST and spends credits on each lead you accept. If you quote a lot, a flat fee is usually cheaper per job won.
Is Oneflare still running?
No. Airtasker closed Oneflare on 30 June 2026. If an article or comparison still lists Oneflare as an option, it is out of date. The main paid alternatives to hipages now are Airtasker, ServiceSeeking, Service.com.au and smaller platforms such as ServiceTasker.
Is there a free alternative to hipages?
Yes. A Google Business Profile is free and puts you on Google Maps. Local Facebook community groups and word of mouth cost nothing but time. Some platforms also let you create a free listing first. Free channels take effort to build, but the enquiries come to you alone, with no other tradies quoting.
